March Goals

hello march printed paper on white surface

Believe it or not March is here.  A new month means new goals! And this month I’m really aiming to set goals for myself that I can achieve as well planning more posts for this website for you guys.

But first, let’s talk about February. February was a hard month for me as far as from a writing standpoint. I unfortunately had some serious writer’s block, and overall I wasn’t feeling motivated. I can’t exactly explain how. These things happen, and I know it’s normal, but it’s still disappointing to fall behind.

So moment of honesty, let’s talk about what my total word count for the month of February was.

Yeah, not good. February was probably my least productive writing month in a long time. I don’t usually share my monthly results, but I decided to (and hopefully from now) so you guys can hold me accountable. And for those of you who are struggling like me –you’re not alone.

So as for my goals for March?

I’m hoping to reach 35k in Clara and Daphne. Or at least 30k. Right now I’m at 22k, so it’s definitely doable if I refocus and find different ways to stay motivated.

I’m finally going to write up some planned blog posts, so I can post more frequently for you guys.

And I just purchased something so I can upload videos IGTV and maybe in the future record videos for Youtube. This is something new I’m still working out, but for beginnings I’m going to do more videos on IGTV and hopefully some more live videos on Instagram if people join in.

Other than that, let me know if there’s anything else you guys would like to see either on Instagram or on the website here.

Thanks so much for your support as always guys.

Let me know what your March goals are in the comments below.

First Draft Has You Stuck?

Long time no post! I swear I am trying to get back on top of posting on my blog, but these days when I have the desire to type I dedicate it all to my WIP.

But I am hoping to be more active here with my posts, and I want to jump right back into talking about writing with you guys.

So today we’re talking about: first drafts

Personally, I find first drafts to be both exciting and horrifying to work on. I mean, it’s the beginning of your new book. It doesn’t get any more difficult than that. But it’s also a chance for you to explore new things –characters, worlds, magic, backstories, different plot lines, etc.

Perhaps the most frustrating part about first draft is that it’s easy to get writer’s block. And talking about it out loud (or typing it) gives me hope that any case of writer’s block is actually curable.

So some things to consider when you’re writing your first draft:

  • Set achievable goals –sometimes you have to set a bunch of small goals to reach a bigger goal. And that’s ok! Whatever it takes, however you get the goals you want to reach, that’s all that’s going to matter at the end.
  • Track your word count –now this is a personal preference for me, so it might not be for everyone, but I really like tracking my word count. I like seeing my progress, seeing what weeks I did better, when I could have done more, etc. But just remember, don’t let your word count define you. It’s easy to get caught up in the number game, or thinking “oh if only I could do that much in one day!” Just remember everyone writes differently.
  • Work at your own pace –going back to not worrying what everyone else is doing. Maybe your writing friends have finished their books, maybe they’re killing it with their word count. Whatever it is, don’t let it stop you from seeing your own hard work paying off. Set your own pace and do what’s comfortable for you
  • If something isn’t working, change it up –I find when I can’t type anything on my laptop I go back to good ole paper and pen. And sometimes that’s all it takes to get me writing again.
  • Breathe, it’s a first draft –as my good friend Andrea reminded me the other day, first drafts are just the first of many drafts in this process. Who knows how many other times you’ll rewrite this book? So take a breath, don’t freak out, remember this is the first draft and it doesn’t have to be perfect. Think of it as a skeleton –the beginning of what you’re working on.

That’s just a few tips for now, but I’m hoping that can help somebody today overcome a bad case of writer’s block!

As for me, it’s back to working on my first draft of Clara and Daphne.

Tell me, what are you guys working on? What advice would you recommend for anyone working on a first draft? Have a tip I didn’t mention –leave it in the comments, I’ll mention it in my Instagram story!

Oh, and let me know what you’d like to hear about next on my blog!

Until next time, happy writing!

Announcement: A Rose With Thorns series

series announcement

Well, the cat is out of the bag!

At long last I can now announce my next project!

I wanted to wait until after the release of Clara and Ezra to announce that Clara’s story is indeed only beginning. That’s right, the story that started out as a single novel, gained a sequel, is now getting a series.

About halfway through writing Clara and Ezra I quickly realized this story had much more than what I could fit in the 312 pages it contains. Sure, I could have added more, but the story I wanted to tell required another book, because in truth, it’s another character’s story.

When I finished Clara and Ezra, even after all the editing and numerous drafts, I was 100% convinced. This sequel wasn’t the end. It couldn’t be the end. I had misjudged Clara’s story, assuming it was something that could fit into two books, but no there’s more. Much more.

My 7th novel, the one I’ve been sharing teasers of on Instagram with #secretproject, is the next book in Clara’s adventures.

This series that I’m calling: A Rose With Thorns series

As for book #3 in this series?

Well, I’m between two different titles right now. It will either be titled: Clara and Daphne OR Daphne and Clara. I’ll be doing a poll on Instagram to see what you guys think fits best. I’m leaning toward Daphne and Clara.

Without any spoilers and going into too much detail –because I’ll be sharing even more throughout the next couple of months– this third book is the first book narrated by someone other than Clara.

Thus far Clara has been the main narrator, our main character –besides maybe a chapter or two where another character took over the narration.

This third book will be told from Daphne’s point of view. Daphne being, for those of you who haven’t started on Clara and Ezra yet, a new character we met in book 2. A character with a dark backstory that I’m just dying to get my hands into!

And, if you’re read this far, I’ll tell you something else. This newest addition to the series will be narrated by Daphne and Clara. The narration will be split. I’m not sure how yet, but I know they’ll both have their fair share to say in the book –there’s a lot happening between the two of them, so it only seems fair they both have lead voices in this book.

That’s all I’m going to share for now! Head over to my instagram @lindseysablowski to vote on which title you prefer. I still don’t have a synopsis or anything official like that written up –so hang in there, more will come as I progress in this book.

I’m only 7k into this novel, and there’s still a lot ahead of me. I’m just glad to finally share this secret with you guys, so I can share more of my ideas as I work through this first draft.

(Literally no one knew about this except for Rhianne and Wesley, so I’m relieved to finally be working out in the open again with my next story!)

Hope you guys are excited for where Clara and Daphne’s story will take us next. As usual, I intend on sharing my progress through the writing journey as I go, so stop by my Instagram and maybe drop some inspirational quotes or some coffee emojis –I could use either to be honest.

Thanks so much to everyone who’s been so supportive! Everyone who’s believed in Clara’s story from day one, and everyone that has a copy of one (or both) of the books at home right now.

Pageflex Persona [document: PRS0000040_00010]

The day we’ve been waiting for, the day I’ve been talking about for a little over a year now, is finally here!

Happy release day to Clara and Ezra!

As of today the ebook version of the book is live. This means you can pick up your copy today and start reading. Or you could gift it to a friend who loves a good fantasy/mystery novel.

Only the ebook is available today. The paperback will be releasing next week. I had to order the proof to make sure everything looks ok, so the proof will be showing up November 21st. As long as it looks ok I’ll hit that publish button that very same day. So a little delay in the paperback, which is unusual for me, but I promise it’ll be out next week! And I’ll be posting again to share that news as well so you’ll have all the updated purchase links.

As for the ebook, here’s the links: Amazon, Goodreads

The ebook is $3.99.

I’ll be sharing more about this book throughout the day, but most importantly I just wanted to thank everyone. Thank you for your patience. This book, being now my 6th complete novel, was my hardest yet to write. It took me a while after Clara and Claire‘s release to get back on track with the sequel. And it took me much longer to finish the book than I expected.

But here it is, we’ve made it to release day! And I couldn’t be more proud of the book I’ve released, that I can now share with you guys. It’s a story with more mystery than the first one, a story I was excited to tell and even more excited to share. I hope you’ll enjoy it.

Stay tuned for the links to the paperback.

And in the meantime, happy reading!

Support Me on Patreon

My Patreon page is now live!

Moment of honesty here: I’ve been struggling. I’ve been struggling financially to do everything I want to do with my writing. Book covers, interior formatting, book signings –none of this is getting any cheaper. I do the best I can, but for the first time I’m asking for some help from you guys.

If you’d like to help me release more content (aka more books and more book signings), I’m on Patreon. Starting for as low as $1 a month you can help me reach my goals while also receiving great rewards. The more you spend, the better the rewards!

Now if Patreon isn’t your sort of thing, that’s ok. There are many other ways to support my writing if Patreon isn’t something you want to participate in. But I hope you’ll at least check out my page and see what it has to offer you.

The goal with Patreon is to have support so I can better release content more quickly –meaning less of a wait time for you and more books out in the world.

Of course if Patreon isn’t your cup of tea, buying any of my books, sharing promo materials, and just participating in general with cover reveals and release days all still help support my writing.

Thanks so much you guys. Regardless of how this goes, I can’t thank you enough for the support you’ve given me.
