2021 Goals + Release Schedule

I know I’m a few days late on this, but happy new year! 2020 was hands down an awful year –and that’s an understatement. So I’m hoping that 2021 and the years ahead of us bring more happiness, health and peace.

It feels like forever since I’ve written an update post. Last time I stopped in was in December.

As many of you know, I took a break from writing for the month of December. After Nanowrimo and Clara and Daphne’s release, it felt like the right –and necessary–thing to do. In years past I would have never given myself the curtesy of a break, but I’m so glad that for December 2020 I did. What a positive (and healing) way to end the year!

During my break from writing, I basically caught up on all the things I love: video games, books, diamond art, spending time with my SO. It was very relaxing, and honestly just what I needed.

It’s been almost a month now since Clara and Daphne’s release. Tomorrow will actually be the one month anniversary. So I just wanted to thank everyone for their support with the release –it really means a lot to me!

I think we’re all caught up, so without any further ado, let’s look ahead at what’s in store for 2021.

2021 Goals:

Write + complete 1st draft (Clara and Lukas)

Work on mystery novel more (if time permits)

Bloodline Inheritance cover reveal (sometime early this year)

Re-release Bloodline Inheritance (date TBA)

Edits + 2nd draft (Clara and Lukas)

Nanowrimo 2021 (??)

Write over 200k words for the year (this is a big goal, but considering for 2020 I wrote approximately 155k, I think it’s possible)

Read 20 books (Goodreads reading challenge)

2021 Projects:

Clara and Lukas –if you follow me on Instagram, you’ve likely already heard that for my next WIP, I’ll be working on book 4 in my current series. Clara and Lukas will be the 4th (and maybe final???) book in A Rose With Thorns series, and I’ve already started working on the 1st draft.

Mystery Novel (TBA) –I haven’t talked in great detail about this project for a reason. I need more time to focus on it. I’ve never been able to juggle more than one book once, and when I do try it gets complicated (and confusing for me). So if I have time this year I’ll be working more on this side project, but it may not be officially announced with more details until much later in the year.

I think that’s everything for now. There’s so much I want to do this year, and it’s all a bit intimidating right now. But I wanted to share with you my goals and projects so you have an idea of what to expect.

As always, if you want to stay up to date, I post frequently on Instagram. I’ve been posting a lot as I navigate the drafting stage of a novel again, so whether you’re looking for advice or just curious about the “behind the scenes” stuff, come on over and say hello.

Happy New Year, everyone!

December Update

Now that Nanowrimo is over, I finally have time to catch up on everything. November was a crazy, busy month for me. Even though I won Nanowrimo, I was writing nearly every day. I think there were only 3 days in total where I didn’t write –and that was simply because I was too tired/stressed to get words down on paper.

The start of December as also been a been crazy for me as well –with the release of my book. Thank you, by the way, to everyone for the amazing support on release day –it is much appreciated!

2020 has been a crazy year –and that’s an understatement. For me, it’s been a year of work –and in some cases, over-working myself. I’ve completed two novels this month –my Nanowrimo novel and Clara and Daphne. So after much debate, I decided that for the month of December I’m taking a little break from writing and hopefully giving myself the whole month “off” from writing.

Now this doesn’t mean I’m not doing anything writing-related. I did some outlining/planning for my next project earlier this week, and just today I hand-wrote a chapter to a WIP I’ve been wanting to work on (but just don’t have the time yet).

But as for actually writing a book… That will have to wait for January. I need a break this month, and I think after Nanowrimo and with the holidays coming up, I could use a long break before diving into a new story.

I’ll be talking more about my next project probably later this month, but for now I think it’s time to sit back and relax.

Crime Cafe Podcast Interview

This will be a quick post, but I just wanted to share that this past Friday I sat down and spoke about books, writing, and everything in between with the Crime Cafe podcast. This was my first ever podcast interview!

The audio episode will go live this Sunday, but the video is already up on Youtube if you’d like to see my office (and my bookshelf).

We talked a lot about what goes on behind the scenes for a writer –why I started writing mystery, what plans I have for future books, what goes into world building, etc.

Anyways, that’s all for now! I’ll be posting a little later (if not today, probably tomorrow) about my plans December/January.

Until then, happy writing, and I hope you enjoy the video!

New Release: Clara and Daphne

Today my 7th book –a book I’ve spent 2 years writing, rewriting, and editing– is out in the world. You can now purchase the paperback or ebook on Amazon.

If you had told 12 year old me that I would have 7 (published) books by the age of 26 I wouldn’t have believed you. And I can honestly say to you that this book is my best one yet. I am so proud with how it turned out, and I’m excited for you to read Daphne’s POV for the first time –she’s a character that really grew on me while writing this story.

This is a strange and scary time to be releasing a book, but I think now more than ever we need books. We need an escape.

This book is special to me. And I hope it can be special to you too. This is the third installment in A Rose With Thorns series, and it’s my favorite one yet.

About the Book:

Every rose has its thorn. Every man has his mask.

Daphne Barlow barely escaped from Ninomay alive.
A twisted turn of events forces her to flee to Shadowland. With nowhere else to go, she finds herself living in a safehouse with mages who remain loyal to Stefan. Amongst the group is none other than her lover, Killian.
Killian is faced with choosing between duty and love. Meanwhile, Daphne uncovers deadly schemes and realizes the safehouse is anything but safe. How could she stay here another day, having witnessed unthinkable horrors?
Daphne’s only hope is escaping with Killian. Can he walk away from a lifetime of crime and still be the man she fell in love with?

In Ninomay, Clara and Lukas work together to deal with the aftermath of tragic events.
When Clara receives a mysterious letter, her worst fears come to light. The island is threatened again –this time with the return of white roses.
While the Council tries to handle the threat internally, rumors soon spread after Declan is attacked and falls ill.
Clara and Lukas’s investigation leads them back to Shadowland, an island far from home and filled with dangers. With death lingering nearby, can they find the rose culprit before another life is lost?

What’s Next?

After a long debate, I’ve decided to take December off from writing. Nanowrimo was really difficult this year, and I could honestly use the break before I start on my next project.

Speaking of next projects, if you head over to my instagram today I’ll be revealing my next big project (there before anywhere else). I’ll post about it here as well hopefully in the next week.

In the meantime, this month I’m relaxing, though I might do some prep work for the re-release for Bloodline Inheritance. I’m hoping to release that either in January or February, so stayed tuned for the cover reveal –it’s had a huge glow up!

For now, that’s all. Enjoy your Sunday and here’s to a good release day!

Clara and Ezra 2 year anniversary

Today CLARA AND EZRA is 2 years old —that’s crazy to think about! I feel as though I just wrote this book yesterday, and to date it’s still probably the hardest book I’ve ever written. But it did let me explore darker things and step further into the mystery genre —which I’m super grateful for.

In a little less than a month now, Clara’s next adventure will be available for you to read.

This is just a quick post to say happy 2 years, and thank you to all of you for your support. I can’t wait to share what I’m working on next!

Pre-Order Clara and Daphne today

Good morning readers,

As of today the pre-order for Clara and Daphne is now available on Amazon. The pre-order is for the ebook only –so if you want to read the book on release day, this is for you. The paperback will be available for purchase on release day, December 6th.

If you’ve added the book to your Goodreads TBR list, Goodreads should keep you up to date with purchase links –and I’ll be posting them here, as well.

This is just a quick update post.

Happy Tuesday!

Clara and Daphne Release Date

Happy Monday, friends! Today I’m happy to announce that I finally have some release news for Clara and Daphne.

Release date: December 6, 2020

Pre-order: Coming Soon (should be live on Amazon in the next 72 hrs)

I’ve gone ahead and ordered the proof for the paperback, so that should be arriving soon. That’s really the last thing I need to review before this book is ready to go.

I’ll be posting another update once the pre-order link is live so you can go directly to Amazon for more details on ordering. The pre-order is for the ebook format only –I unfortunately can’t set up a pre-order for the paperback (hopefully one day in the future KDP will let me do that). So if you pre-order the ebook you’ll be able to start reading on December 6th, or if you prefer paperback, you can place your order on December 6th.

November has been my busiest month so far this year as I’m working on NaNoWriMo and also trying to get this book ready for release, so I’m sorry I haven’t stopped by with more updates.

I’ll most likely be doing some kind of live instagram event or Instagram video to celebrate on release day, so you’re more than welcome to join me –and who knows, maybe I’ll be giving out some free copies.

That’s it for now –I should get back to writing.

NaNoWriMo 2020

It’s almost that time of year again!

This year I will once again be taking part in NaNoWriMo. For those of you who aren’t familiar with this challenge, NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month) is a writing challenge that happens once every year in November. The goal is to write 50,000 words in 30 days.

I’ve been a part of the Nano community since 2008. I’ve written over a dozen books (some finished, some un-finished) because of this challenge, and some of those books were from my first series (the Magicians series –literally every book except Cursed With Power has been written in Nano). Some years I wrote entirely new books and some years I rewrote books (like in the Magicians series) that were later on published.

Last year I won Nano with my adult mystery/paranormal novel. Just barely made it to the 50k mark, but I did it. Not with as much grace and planning as I had hoped, though. At the end I was literally staying up late every night just to get words in.

Anyways, this year I’m participating again, and I wanted to share a little bit about my project.

My project this year is currently titled “Aurelia” –this is a temporary title because I couldn’t actually decide on a title (and didn’t want to call it “untitled” all year). Aurelia is actually the main character in the book. I don’t have a blurb or anything yet that I want to share, but I can tell you this: it’s a fantasy/romance novel with assassins, magic and love (the slow burn kinda love).

The idea for this project actually came to me two weeks ago when I was writing down any and every story idea I could think of.

I debated about writing the next book in my current series (A Rose With Thorns), but I decided I didn’t want to feel like I had to rush through writing the book –especially when I haven’t decided what exactly is going to happen just yet.

So out of about 13 ideas, I chose this fantasy/romance novel because I had a lot of inspiration for this one (thanks Pinterest) and it sounded fun. I just want to have fun with my project this year, so there’s no stress thinking about getting it ready for publication and etc.

I’m excited to be diving back in Nano this year, and if you’re participating let me know in the comments what you plan on writing.

I’ll be posting daily updates on Instagram, but I’ll try to stop by here now and again with brief updates as well.

Happy writing, and good luck to those of you participating in Nano this year!
