NaNoWrimo 2019

So I’m a day late posting this, but happy NaNoWriMo to those of you who are participating this year!

I am happy to report that I am participating this year and thought I’d take a second to talk about my project.

photo-1521676772933-7ff050c1b9dd

My project is currently untitled, but it follows Ava Greene, a psychic, who, after seven years, returns to her hometown. It’s an adult paranormal/mystery, and as of today I’m a little over 3k into the story.

I’m most excited this year because I’m stepping out of my comfort zone. My books usually always end up being fantasy mixed with other genres. But this year I decided to do something different, and I’m excited to see how it turns out, even if it goes horribly.

The idea for Ava’s story was actually inspired by a story my dad was telling me about a real-life psychic. (Can’t remember the guy’s name, so I’ll have to look that up later.) After that the rest of her story kind of just came to me in pieces. I’ve been figuring it out as I go, quite literally winging it –because I’ve done no prepping for this novel whatsoever.

I have to say it feels good to be participating in NaNo this year. Last year I wasn’t able to because it was right around the release of Clara and Ezra, but this year I decided to go for it, even though I’ll admit I rarely ever make it to the 50k mark.

While participating in NaNo, I’m also still editing Clara and Daphne. I’m trying to make time for both projects every day, but obviously I’ve made reaching my word count a priority because I figured if I’m really going to participate this year I should at least give it my all.

For those of you also participating in NaNo, I wish you the best of luck! This sort of challenge is never easy, but remember, try your best and don’t give up. Really the only way you can lose is if you give up altogether. Set little goals for yourself and work toward those. Reward yourself as often as possible because, trust me, every bit of encouragement helps. Tell your friends and family about your book and get excited about it. 50k is a great start to your first draft, even if it’s sh*t.

And for those of you not participating this year, I see you. We’ve all been there, and I understand this type of challenge isn’t for everyone. If you’re still doing your own writing/editing/revisions/planning this month, be proud in the work that you’re doing. If you needed a break from writing for a month, I applaud you even more. Self care is so important, and we as writers can easily forget and neglect this aspect. Take care of yourself. And remember, there’s always next year!

That’s all for now! I’m still trying to catch up today, since I slacked a little yesterday, so I should get back to my novel. I’ll be posting tips, frustrations, and more as the month continues for anyone who’s interested.

Happy writing!

Clara and Daphne: 1st Draft Complete

So I’m super late on posting about this, but on Saturday I finished the first draft of my WIP, Clara and Daphne.

For those of you who may be catching up, or somehow didn’t hear about this book I’ve been talking about nonstop, Clara and Daphne is my next upcoming release. It’s scheduled to release sometime in 2020.

That being said, now that I have the first draft done I wanted to talk about what’s next. And let me tell ya, I’ve got my work cut out for me.

So my first draft finished roughly around 87k. This is a little lower than the 90k goal I set for myself, and ideally I’d like to add more to this book, as the whole series thus far has gone over 90k per book. I’ve already got some ideas of what I want to add in.

Basically my to-do list is looking something like this right now:

  1. Edit/read over 1st draft. Make an Excel sheet to get organized and have a better understanding of the overall plot, developments, key events, etc
  2. Start on 2nd draft. Aim to add more words, rewrite scenes that need more work, strengthen plot/characters/development. Sometimes my 2nd draft becomes the revise/rewriting draft (where a lot changes from 1st draft vs 2nd)
  3. Beta Readers/3rd draft. With Clara and Ezra I did three drafts with one being a major rewrite because the 1st draft had a lot of issues and was way too short. This book doesn’t have the shortness factor, so depending on how edits and 2nd draft goes we’ll see if I do a third draft then send to beta readers or vice versa.

Now keep in mind this list is just a rough idea of the work I have a head of me. I won’t know more until I work through editing this 1st draft and see how much needs fixing. Now that I have the skeleton of the story, which is the most crucial part of this process, I at least know the structure is there –I just need to fill in some things here and there.

As of right now this book is still on track to release in 2020, and I hope to keep it that way. I’ve admittedly taken a small break from writing since Saturday, but I plan on starting edits/read over this weekend.

Also, I plan on finally writing up a synopsis for this book. When I started this book I honestly only had a vague idea of where it was going. I had some ideas but wasn’t sure how they’d turn out. Now that I know the full story I’m going to write up a synopsis that I’ll share first on Patreon and then later this year or the start of next year everywhere else. So if you want to read it first before anyone else, be sure to stop by my Patreon page and sign up.

All in all, I’m very happy to be done with this 1st draft of the book. I know it seems like there’s a lot of work to be done before release, and there is, but I’m also confident I can manage it now that I’ve tackled what I think is one of the hardest parts of this whole process.

Thank you guys so much for your overwhelming and ongoing support for this book as I get it ready for release. I can’t wait to share more details with you soon!

That’s all for now. I’ll be back soon with more updates, I promise!

Happy writing!

September Goals

Happy September guys! Hard to believe August came and went so quickly, but we’re that much closer to Halloween, so I’m pretty happy.

August was not a good writing month for me. Even though I came up with a new daily goal for my writing I still had a hard time getting in those daily words, mainly because I found it hard to make time for my writing.

But today I’m focusing on September goals because it’s a new month and that means change, and hopefully the good kind.

September Goals:

  • Reach 80k in Clara and Daphne
  • IGTV episode talking about Vellum (interior formatting program I use for my books now)
  • Reach 500 daily word count goal at least 5 times a week
  • Update Patreon rewards –more on this later, but I’m going to be updating the rewards to focus more on helping/benefiting writers (as right now that’s where I want to focus most)

So obviously there’s a lot of work ahead of me this month. I’m eager to reach 80k in my WIP because remember my end goal is to hit 90k, and usually I tend to struggle when I’m this close to the end. This first draft has really been knocking me on the ground more times than I’d like to admit, but I think once I’m actually finished and can start the editing/re-writing process that will help make draft 2 easier on me. Right now I’m just trying to get the words down on the paper.

As far as releases go, I don’t have any others planned for the rest of this year. I’m working hard on finishing Clara and Daphne so that can hopefully release sometime next year (hopefully).

That’s all for right now. I know this was a quick and brief update, but that’s kind of all I have happening right now.

I’m eager to hear what your September goals are for yourself –whether they’re writing related or not. Be sure to share your goals in the comments below so we can cheer each other on.

Wishing everyone a successful month! I’ll be back again soon!

Happy writing!

New Release: Thicker Than Blood (v. 2)

ttb sunset4

Happy (belated) release to Thicker Than Blood!

Sorry I’m a few days late writing up this post, guys. I forgot how hectic releasing a book can be, and usually I write up the post a week in advance. But anyways, here I am, so let’s talk about this book’s release.

The backstory:

ttb before and after
Left: 2014 cover. Right: 2019 new cover

For those of you who don’t know, TTB originally released back in 2014. It was the second book I self published, and at that time I still didn’t really know what I was doing. I didn’t have the money at the time to buy a custom cover, so I bought a pre-made one (not that there’s anything wrong with pre-made covers, but the one I bought didn’t match the genre of the book) and I also did the interior design myself… in Word… without having any idea how to do something like that (so it was pretty rough looking haha).

Fast forward to now! We’ve finally made it to release day. There were some days I worried I would never make it to this day. This book’s re-release has been in the works for several years now, and these past couple months I put as much attention and work into this book to ensure that the re-release wouldn’t have the same errors as the original.

Mind you, the story itself hasn’t changed. But I edited the book (again), fixed minor issues here and there (that you won’t notice unless you read the original), and obviously we got a new cover (thanks to Hell Yes Design) and I redid the interior design (thanks to Vellum).

Purchase Links:

Amazon: paperback

Amazon: ebook

Goodreads

The paperback will also be available on B&N, but that usually takes a couple weeks before it shows up (for whatever reason) –so I’ll update this book when I have that link (and you can find it on the books page as well).

What’s Next:

Screen Shot 2019-08-13 at 9.52.46 AM.png

It’s really refreshing to see the covers coming together, and now they actually look like a series standing side by side!

Now there’s only one more book left in this series that needs a new cover –and once that’s done the entire series will be complete! It’s taken a long time, but we’re so close, and I’m excited to be almost done with this project so I can focus 100% on new stories.

I can’t guarantee when Bloodline Inheritance will be re-releasing. 2020 is when I plan on releasing Clara and Daphne, so unless I need more time with that book and decide to push back the release date, it might not be until 2021 that BlIn re-releases. But who knows, plans constantly change, and I don’t have that solid of release plans for the future, so for now hold tight, and we’ll see what next year brings us.

Lastly, before you go, I just wanted to thank everyone for their ongoing support with this series and my writing in general. It means a lot to me, and you guys made release day a success. Thank you so much, especially for your patience, since the re-releasing of this series has been quite time consumed and even at times unpredictable.

That’s all for now, guys! I’ve got some serious writing to catch up, so I can finish this first draft. In the meantime please go give TTB some love and check it out, won’t you?

Happy writing ya’ll!

August Goals and Quick Update

august goals 2019

Happy August, ya’ll!

Not going to lie, July was a really busy month for me, and I definitely do not reach my writing goals. To be honest the free time I did have was dedicated to getting Thicker Than Blood ready for re-release.

But now that it’s August I’m determined to get back on track. So here’s what I have planned so far for this month:

  • reach 70k in Clara and Daphne –this was my goal for July, so it’s on here again because I didn’t reach it, and I’m so close! I’m currently at 67k, and I’m hoping with having a vacation this month that’ll actually help me have more spare time to write.
  • TTB releases August 10th. There’s still time to pre-order the ebook if you want to start reading on release day! We’re 6 days away, so yes it will occupy my time for the next week or so, but I can focus more on my WIP now that we’re so close to release.
  • The Hollow Knight pantheon is not at all writing related haha. But it’s the video game I’ve poured over 200 hours in, and I’m still working to complete the pantheon, so if anyone has any tips I’m desperate!
  • Last but not least, I’d like to have new posts either for the website or new content for IGTV. It’s been difficult keeping up with my website, writing, and everything else in between, so I do apologize if I’ve been slacking. But I have so much I want to share with you guys, and hopefully this month I can some more content on here (or IGTV)

So those are my goals for this month. I’ve switched my daily word count goal from 1000 to 500 because I’ve been struggling so much lately with everything that’s going on. 500 is much more achievable for me at the moment, so I’m eager to have a better go at that this month after TTB‘s release.

My final WIP word count goal is to end at 90k. I’ve still got a ways to go, and now it’s looking like I might not finish until September or October –depending on how writing goes. It’s the first draft, and for some reason I’m really struggling with writing the last 20k or so.

What are your goals for this month? Let me know in the comments below, so we can cheer each other on!

I’m looking forward to all that this month has to offer, and I’m determined to make it my most productive and rewarding month yet!

Happy writing, ya’ll!

TTB Pre-order and Release News

ChasingSunsets_8757 ttb

Hey guys! Sorry I’m late on posting this –this month has been super busy for me, but I have good news.

Thicker Than Blood will be releasing on August 10th. If you haven’t already check out my Instagram –you can see what the proof of the paperback looks like! (It looks great!) And in the meantime while you’re waiting you can pre-order the ebook on Amazon.

If you pre-order the ebook now you’ll be able to start reading the book on release day, August 10th!

The new edition includes a new cover (designed by Hell Yes Designs), new interior formatting (because I finally have a program for that), as well as some other minor changes. All in all, the book has improved greatly since 2014, and I’m excited to be sharing the new edition with you. We’ve come a long way since then, and it’s nice to see Alaire’s story finally getting the makeover it deserves.

I am so excited to be re-releasing this book and right around the anniversary of its original release too (Aug 1, 2014)! I’ll be keeping you guys up to date with purchase links and hopefully be doing a video on IGTV later this month about the release.

Thank you guys as always for your support. We’re so close now –not too much longer!

Thicker Than Blood Cover Reveal

Good morning everyone, and happy EARLY cover reveal day!

I did a poll on Instagram to see if you guys wanted the cover reveal early, and the answer was yes! And luckily I had a lot of extra time on my hands this morning to make this possible, so without further ado let’s talk about this new cover.

First I want to show you the original cover that’s been with this book since 2014…

TTB old cover
2014 1st edition cover

So this original cover from 2014 was a premade cover I purchased at the time. There’s nothing wrong with premades, especially if you can find someone who has a great variety of them, but there were two main problems with this cover. One: you couldn’t tell what genre the book was just from looking at it. And two: the cover didn’t go along with the other book covers for the series. Hence why the entire series has been redesigned!

But let’s get to what you came for, the cover reveal:

TTB-ebook

And the book jacket:

TTB-wrap-webuse

Cover design by: Hell Yes Design Studio (the same designer who also did the cover for: Cursed With PowerClara and Ezra, and Shadows and Embers)

There you have it! This is the new cover for Thicker Than Blood. And since it’s been so long since I’ve talked about this book, here’s the blurb:

Alaire Sencler is not the man he used to be. He left behind a foul and bloody past to be with the woman he loves, but the memories never allow him to forget what he did.

While the White magicians raise an army, their leader hides his true reasons for going to war. Meanwhile the Dark magicians seek out a new haven, one that might keep them hidden long enough to prepare for the war that is raging on outside their doorstep.

Though Alaire has a unique gift and the woman of his dreams by his side, he has yet to come to terms with Esmour’s death and what the future holds for him. New faces and the revealing of the fifth Dark magician offers hope, but only the strongest will survive in the final battle.

Whoever said “blood runs thicker than water” never knew what it is like to be part of the current.

And there you have it!

There’s obviously still a lot more to say about this book, which I’ll save for another time.

Re-release date: June 2019 (TBA) –date might change. For those of you who don’t know I somehow lost the final copy I had saved of this book so I’m retyping it (while look at the actual book itself) and also fixing it up as I go.

What comes with the re-release? New cover, new interior design, corrected formatting (I’m fixing a lot of because back in 2014 I didn’t have the software I do now to make it look pretty), and bonus chapter

I think that wraps it up. Let me know if you have any other questions about the re-release, and please give this cover some love. I’m very happy with how the designer took my ideas and ran with them –she made the cover everything I imagined and more! And just wait till you see what we have in store for book #4!

Thank you guys again for all your support!
